Frostbane

Dragonfire had already scorched the golden fields of maize by the time Nexus reached his sword. He prayed to the gods that he wasn’t too late. He had to protect his people.

The arrival of that horned, scale-covered beast, heralded by the clanging of alarm bells throughout the city, marked the third dragon in as many months. Black as inkwells spilled in the dark of night, the dragons had come in succession, burning and searing the land to oblivion in their wake.

They destroyed crops and carried off livestock and, occasionally, people. They leveled towns and villages, and one of them had nearly wiped out half of Boroni, the capital city of Lower Aletia—Nexus’s home.

Nexus had stopped them all thus far.  Now he would do it yet again.
